Carers Week 2020

Each year Edinburgh Carers Council hosts an event for Carers Week, usually a social gathering or a fun workshop.

This year Carers Week is from the 8th-14th of June and just because we can't all get together physically shouldn't mean we can't participate in Carers Week in a different way.

We were thinking that because we're not able to get together, and many of us aren't able to take a holiday or a respite break away from home...

Updated local guidance: Carers & PPE

There has been some updated guidance from the local government on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and how to require it if you're caring for someone and providing personal care.

These documents contain a visual guide to help you determine if you require PPE to carry out your caring role and who you should contact if you require a supply.

Please be aware there are two versions of this guidance and these are as follows:

We are very pleased to publish this first Carers United article, which is written and created by Caro, a carer and long term member of Edinburgh Carers Council. Many thanks to Caro for taking the time and effort to write this piece, in hopes it will inspire others during these difficult times.

If you would also like to submit a piece sharing your experiences, opinions and/or coping strategies, please email rachael@edinburghcarerscouncil.co.uk. We would love to hear from you.

Online (Facebook) Peer Support Group

We've launched a new Facebook group called 'Edinburgh Carers Council: Carers Peer Support Group'.

This has been created in order to allow us all to:

  • stay connected and keep in touch with each other

  • share thoughts, experiences and coping strategies

  • look for advice and find solutions to problems

  • generally support each other!

It will be for any carer of someone with mental health difficulties, a learning disability, autism, dementia or acquired brain injury.
